Kenya - Nairobi National ParkSituated at the northern end of the Athi plains, Nairobi National Park covers just over 100sq km's and lies on the south western outskirts of Nairobi city. Kenya National Parks are controlled by Kenya Wildlife Services, who look after and protect the areas. The wages of workers in the National Parks are usually funded by entrance fees charged for safaris and tours. Unlike Game Reserves, National Parks allow strictly no human habitation. Nairobi National Park is open from dawn to dusk - both are the There is a 'picnic' area on the banks of the Athi river where you can see crocs and hippo - and get ripped off by the local monkeys if you are not careful with food and loose belongings! There are a couple of lion prides resident in the Nairobi National Park and it is not uncommon to be witness to them actually on a fresh kill. (Just look for the flock circling vultures in the sky - a sure sign that their pickings are imminent.) There are no resident elephants in the game reserve but they occasionally have an orphan or two undergoing rehabilitation. Other animals present within Nairobi National Park are warthogs, leopard, cheetah, water buck, jackal, hyena, kudu, badger dik-dik, gerenuk, baboons. Bird life is fantastic!
