The Kenyan Flag contains three equal sized horizontal bands of black, red, and green - from top to bottom - the red band is edged in white above and below; a large traditional Kenyan warrior's shield covering a pair of crossed battle spears is superimposed at the shield's center. The black of the Kenya flag represents the people of Kenya. The red of the Kenya flag represents the blood shed in the fight for independence against the British colonisers. The green of the Kenya flag represents the fertility of the Kenyan land. The white edges represent peace. The shield of the warrior on the Kenya flag represents Kenya's pride and traditions.

The Kenya flag is flown from all Government buildings - dawn to dusk - and may be flown on any building on days of national importance.
