Kenya is one of Africa's most diverse countries for scenery: From Mount Kenya in the centre-north with its lush forests and foothills, through the volcanically influenced region through the Rift Valley in the west, together with its grass plains and soda lakes down to the Masai Mara National Game Reserve near the south western border with Tanzania. Not to mention the dazzling white pristine beaches of the Kenyan coast with Kenya's largest National Park, Tsavo within a days drive of Mombasa.

Tourism in Kenya is one of the main industries. Employing hundreds of thousands of Kenyans. You are sure to have a great holiday in Kenya! Whether you take a Kenya Beach Holiday or Kenya Safari.

Kenya can be said to be all of Africa in one country. From hot arid desert areas in the north east to snow capped mountains. Areas of thick jungle and long white sandy beaches! Modern towns and mud huts - what diversity!

The capital of Kenya is Nairobi, with Mombasa as the second city and main sea port.

Flying Time: A direct flight to Nairobi from the Uk is around 10½ hours.  A direct flight to Mombasa around 11 hours. Scheduled flights with Kenya Airways and British Airways. If you are tall it is worth booking a seat with extra leg room! KLM do Indirect flights to Kenya via Schiphol Hub (Netherlands) taking a bit longer.

The local time on your Kenya Holiday is 3 hours ahead of GMT. Be careful though as 'Swahilli time' starts at sunrise (06.00) 'Swahilli One O'clock' is 07.00!

The Kenya Currency is the Kenya Shilling. with around 150 ks to the £. ('Ballpark' 10p = 15 ks) Kenya currency purchase is not available outside Kenya. If you think you will need cash immediately on arrival US$ change and low denomination notes will suffice.

Kenya Visa Requirements: A Kenya visa is required for entry into Kenya which can be purchased from the Kenya Embassy prior to departure for around £35. The visa can be purchased on arrival at The Kenyan Immigration Department. For around US$50 cash.

There may be an Exit surcharge in force when you leave Kenya so check with your travel agent or the Kenya Embassy agents:

The National Language is Swahili with a smattering of local tribal languages. English is spoken in most of the tourist areas.

The climate in Kenya is generally hot and humid at the coast. Temperate inland. Chilly by comparison at night. Cool in the morning and evening.

The rainy season in Kenya is from April through June with another short period somewhere between October and December.

The electricity voltage is generally 240v AC at 50 cycles - domestic sockets are two-pin round and three-pin square types.

The weights and measures system used is the metric system (some of the older market traders may still use the old Imperial system).

Health and Inoculation advice should be sought from your GP three months before you travel if possible.

Kenya is an independent, democratic republic and a full member of the Commonwealth - with remnants of the past with their language, legal and administrative systems, style of architecture and expatriate settlers. The Kenya Currency was based on the UK Shilling.
